MyVerse on Lunch Breaks • 1-16-2012
MyVerse, was born and raised in Orlando, Florida by her mother (Marta) and older brother (Omar). Her mother, a strong spiritual Latina, rooted her upbringing in the church. MyVerse flourished her creativity, when her mother enrolled her in ballet and choir in her early years as a youth. Growing up MyVerse had a powerful fascination with writing short stories that she loved to recite to her family. At the tender age of 12 she began writing poetry and decided to pursue her skills as a poet in her adolescent years. By the time she reached 15, she found Hip-Hop to be a culture and a spiritual connection that strengthened and coincided with her beliefs. Being raised with a musically talented brother, who's 8 years older than her, exposed her to music that was ahead of her timing and not normally heard on the radio. Those genres ranged from Christian Hip-Hop, Reggae, Drum-n-Bass to even classical music. This was the seed that developed MyVerse’s growing love for good conscious music. The critical moment that changed her life was when she decided to attend a military school at the age of 17 to graduate high school. This is where she discovered the art of Spoken Word and began her first performances as a poet. MyVerse’s unique style of poetry and her passion for Hip-Hop effortlessly transitioned her into becoming an Emcee. This inspired her to enroll as a full-time journalist student so that she could expand her craft as a writer and also to assist her task of carving a mold in Hip Hop music. Career highlights for MyVerse include but are not limited to: Her own open mic nights called "Prolific Mondays", she was a member of Team Orlando 09' for The National Poetry Slam. She has opened for Das Efx, EPMD , Brand Nubian, Naughty by Nature, Goodie Mobb, One Be Lo of Binary Star, Joel Ortiz, Jada Kiss, Styles P and Rock Steady Crew. MyVerse made semi finals for the Trojan Live Large Emcee competition where she was judged by Hip Hop Legends such as Opio of Souls of Mischief, One Be Lo and FreeWay . In her career thus far. MyVerse is a volunteer in mentoring high school poetry clubs through Blu Baily's Spoken Word Press. An organization used to mentor and enlighten the youth by helping them realize their fullest potential in performance poetry. it has lead to participating in conducting an annual poetry slam for high schools in Orlando. MyVerse was fortunate to take part in building a team Orlando (Team Rock It) for The Brave New Voices competition in 2010' and 11', which is a National High school poetry slam. She is currently volunteering with Catholic Charities in bringing awareness of refugee families escaping political or religious persecution, by creating a furniture drive/pick up that accepts gently used house wear for donations. contact her if you have anything to donate!! These experiences are what inspires and motivates her drive. MyVerse has released her first mixtape titled "New Flash!" on Datpiff.com and is currently working on her next project titled "Revelations Featuring MyVerse" set to drop in October 2011. She set tour June 15th-July 18th 2011 for The Lounge Battles Prelim Tour where she opened for Madd Illz. Other Stages she has performed on has been Paid Dues Festival 2011, Conga Room at the Staple Center L.A., The Vans Warped Tour Bring it Back stage and The Rock Steady Crew 34th Anniversary Stage. Hours of exciting and wonderful scenes in the extra footage that didn’t make it into the finished film need to be restored.
